About English Heritage
English Heritage is the Government's statutory adviser on the historic environment. Officially known as the Historic Buildings and Monuments Commission for England, English Heritage is sponsored by the Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS).
It manages over 400 historic sites across the country on behalf of the nation including Stonehenge, Dover Castle and Chiswick House.
In April 2005, in partnership with the owners of the gardens, the London Borough of Hounslow, English Heritage established the Chiswick House and Gardens Trust to integrate the management of the House and Gardens.
