1000 locals turn out for Good Health, Good Harvest

Chiswick House Walled Garden threw open its gates and welcomed over 1000 local people to a harvest celebration on Sunday 11th September.

Chiswick House Walled Garden threw open its gates and welcomed over 1000 local people to a harvest celebration on Sunday 11th September.
First among the admirers of the gardens rich store of fruit, flowers and vegetables were Mayoress of Hounslow Simrit Mann and Deputy Mayor Cllr Ajmer Grewal who came to meet the many local people and organisations participating in our celebration of health and harvest.

The sun shone brightly and the wind blew as the public helped to dig potatoes and families ground their own herbs and spices, took part in cooking demonstrations, discovered nutritional tips and took away bags of produce. Congratulations to the winners of our traditional games - the coconut shy and apple bobbing games were enthusiastically supported! Dancing was another highlight of the day with adults and children taking to their toes and learning a spot of Tai Chi, Morris Dancing, Fitness and Scottish Country Dancing sessions.

A host of local organisations from Hounslow’s Community Farming Association to Capel Manor College, Hounslow Healthy Walks and Fusion Fitness all added to the experience. With so much going on Chiswick House Community Gardener Karen Roberts, said 'this has been the most fun-filled day we’ve had in the Walled Gardens and we are already looking forward to our next event – Family Pumpkin Party on Saturday 29th October'.
